The Lovu guide

Care and connection during memory loss

When someone you love is living with memory loss, their comfort matters more than capturing every detail. If you are considering an avatar, begin with what they want and what feels manageable today. There is no need to rush.

Let comfort lead

Choose a familiar place and a moment when conversation feels welcome. Ask one simple question and leave room for silence. Follow their version of the story; if they do not want to continue, stop.

Permission still comes first

Memory loss affects people differently. Include the person in decisions where they can participate. Being their carer or relative does not by itself authorise voice cloning. When capacity or authority is uncertain, get appropriate professional advice and let us review eligibility before proceeding.

Keep the distinction clear

An avatar generates new replies; an original recording holds what the person actually said. Never introduce an avatar to someone living with dementia as if it were the real person. Explain that it is AI and pay attention to their understanding and comfort.

Support, not a treatment

Lovu does not treat memory loss or promise therapeutic benefit. An avatar may not be suitable for your situation. Keep the person’s care and relationships at the center, and discuss concerns with those supporting them.
